Lifestyle and Wine-estates
South Africa knows roughly two ways in which one can manage a Wine Estate.
“A Gentleman’s wine estate”. One owns the estate and resides there as well, but one leases the land and the planted grapevines to another wine estate. One receives rent and a preconcerted amount of bottles. One has little to no work managing the estate.
“A Farmer’s wine estate”. One is again owner of the property, but also does the work involved in such a business with the aid of a manager and personnel. Of course there are many hybrid forms (export).
The price of a Wine Estate is dependent of a number of factors: an estate in the vicinity of a village would be more expensive than further away; the region is important; how old the grapevines are; which wines are planted; and so on.
